CLUB HISTORYIn November 2000, when a local father started Saturday morning football training for nine young lads it is doubtful that anyone would have envisaged that this was the start of the Football Club we have today.
For the next few months the numbers of boys and girls attracted to the training sessions increased at a steady pace. The Club really came into full bloom however, in September 2001 with the arrival of virtually a fully formed team, disenchanted with a now local rival club. This proved to be the spark that ignited peoples' interest and Stoke Golding Football Club was officially born.
Season 2001 - 2002The season 2001-2002 saw the Club field mini soccer teams (7-a-side) within the Under 8's, 9's and 10's age groups.
Season 2002 - 2003During the season 2002-2003, the Club continued its growth and fielded sides at the Under 7's, 8's, 9's, 10's and 11's age group. The Under 11 side playing full 11-a-side football.
Season 2003 - 2004In 2003-2004 we again expanded our teams age ranges by fielding a newly formed Under 7's and 16's team whilst expanding our existing sides at the Under 12's,11's, 9's and 8's level. The U8's have two teams registered (Swords and Dragons) due to the growing availability of players in this age group. Season 2004 - 2005 For the season 2004-2005 we have continued to increase our membership and have fielded squads for the Under 17's, 12's, 11's, 10's (two teams), 9's (two teams), 8's and 7's. Mini-Dribblers (U6's) ran for the 9 weeks from the end of April onwards free of charge. We have also forged a link to the Senior teams in Stoke Golding enabling our players to continue their football participation beyond Youth football. Season 2005 - 2006 We now have an U12's, U11's, U10's (Swords & Dragons), U9's, U8's, U7's and Mini- Dribblers (U6's - for 9 weeks from May 2006 onwards approximately). SGFC is going from strength to strength and the support, feedback and reputation that we now have is phenomenal! We have been awarded the Chartered Standard for Excellence this season - watch this space for more developments... |
